Seasonal flowers,
hand painted to last a lifetime
a note from the studio
In my East Sussex studio, each painting begins with a gathered stem, grown from seed, foraged from hedgerow paths, or sourced from local growers who I’ve come to know over the seasons. Inspired by the tradition of the florilegium, a “gathering of flowers” once used to record the beauty of the natural world, my work celebrates British blooms and reflects a renewed connection to nature close to home.
In the tradition of botanical study, I observe the plant as it opens, sketching its form in natural light before oil mixing begins. Pigments are mixed by hand to reflect the living colour of each petal and leaf.
Every painting is a study in seasonality, rooted in the artistry of observation and making.
