Now treasured in English gardens, cosmos are vibrant, resilient blooms native to scrub and meadowlands in the Americas, with their highest natural diversity in Mexico. When spanish mission priests cultivated the flowers, they named them "cosmos" from the Greek word kosmos with a nod to the blooms' incredibly symmetrical, evenly spaced petals, representing harmony and the orderly universe.
