Dahlia Variabilis

£695.00
Sold out

When early botanists brought the first wild dahlia species from Mexico to Europe in 1789, the plants immediately began cross-pollinating. The resulting seedlings looked so wildly different from one another, exploding into unpredictable shapes, sizes, and colours, that taxonomists were utterly bewildered and argued for decades over how to name them, eventually deciding on the umbrella term Dahlia Variabilis.

These dahlias were picked on Hookheath Flower Farm.

  • Framed original oil painting on gesso board

  • Painting size: 30 × 50 cm

  • Housed in a handmade frame

  • Hung with a botanically dyed silk ribbon
